ABOUT THE PROJECT
This photography session was a collaboration by Atelier Valencia, the design studio responsible for this private villa in Moraira, Spain. The residence is defined by its modern, minimalist architecture and the integration of premium natural materials, specifically stone and wood. My objective was to provide high-quality visual documentation that serves as a cornerstone of the designer's architectural portfolio.
GOAL
The primary goal was to focus on the essence of the architectural design, its clean form, and the materials used. Since the villa was not yet inhabited at the time of the session, the visual narrative shifted from "lifestyle" to the quality of finishes, textures, and the precision of detail, which define the high-end character of this project.
CHALLENGES
The main challenge was the rawness of the space. The interiors were almost entirely devoid of loose furniture, featuring only fixed elements like the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. In photography, emptiness can often result in a "cold" or unfinished feel. Additionally, the expansive windows under the Spanish sun created high contrasts and unwanted reflections on polished surfaces, which risked obscuring the true textures and structures.
STRATEGY
To address the emptiness of the space, we adopted a strategy of tight framing and close-up shots. Instead of wide, vacant angles, the lens focused on the dialogue between materials: the junction of stone and wood or the ribbed tiles in the bathrooms. To manage the harsh sun, it was crucial to avoid direct reflections to bring out the matte and satin finishes. We used natural light and shadows to "furnish" the interior. The interplay of light and shadow on the walls and floors provided the depth and texture that the space lacked due to the absence of furniture.
RESULT
The result is a cohesive, artistic body of work that turned the lack of furniture into an asset. The photographs highlight the nobility of the stone, the precision of the woodwork, and the architectural rigor of the design. The client received images that go beyond mere documentation, capturing the atmosphere through texture and light. This material serves as a professional tool for showcasing the design firm's expertise.
